In anticipation of the season premiere of American Idol, Katie Perry is making the media rounds to promote the show. The “Roar” singer stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about her upcoming show and share some stories from the Oscars on Sunday night (Feb. 24).
While Jimmy had her there, he wanted to get some deets on her recent engagement to actor Orlando Bloom. On Valentine’s day, the couple cryptically announced, via Instagram, that they were engaged. Katy shared a photo of the couple surrounded by heart balloons, showing off her very large pink ring.
Katy confirmed the news on the show and went into detail about her Orlando popped the question.
“Yes, I’m very happy thank you,” she said. “In and Out (burger) plays a big role in my life. We bonded over an In and Out burger about three years ago at the Golden Globes.”
She went onto explain how the two met because he stole a burger off of her table and she found him to be ‘so hot.” That later gave the couple something to bond over and the rest is history.
But how did Orlando pop the question?
“It was Valentine’s Day,” Katy revealed. “We went to dinner and I thought we were going and see some art after dinner but we pulled up to a helicopter. It was really sweet, he asked me to marry him in a helicopter. Actually, the funny part is that we had champagne in the helicopter and the box was in his pocket and he had written down everything that he wanted to say in a note to divert. He was going to pull [the ring] out while I’m reading it. I’m reading it but I’m hearing the champagne is broken and the bottle is everywhere.”
Turns out, Orlando tried to pull the box out of his pocket and it got stuck so his elbow crashed into the champagne breaking the bottle. But all was not lost.
“It was really sweet,” Katy added. “We did land and it was like James Bond. Everybody had an earpiece and then we’d go downstairs, we landed on a rooftop and my whole family was there and all my friends. He did so well.”
Congratulations to the happy couple. The new season of American Idol with Katy, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie premieres Sunday night (March 2).
