Kevin Hart is up on his feet after a car crash left him with serious back injuries. The “Jumanji” actor stepped onto the the stage for the first time since the crash at the E! People’s Choice Awards on Sunday night.
Accepting his award for The Comedy Act of 2019, Kevin received a standing ovation from the crowd as he walked out. He proceeded to thank friends, family and fans who have supported him through his ordeal.
“First and foremost, thank God because I definitely don’t have to be here,” Kevin told the audience. “Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more. It makes me appreciate the things that really matter. Family. I want to thank my wife and my kids, who really stepped up to the plate for me.”
Kevin went on to thank the fans who voted for the award. “You have no idea the effect you have on us as entertainers. Your energy, your support it means the world and I truly want to thank you guys for being there for me at my difficult time,” he said. “This is special, they all are, I do not take them for granted. Thank you so much. God bless everybody in this room.”
Kevin was involved in a serious car accident in September where he was a passenger alongside driver Jared S. Black. When Black lost control of the vehicle, it rolled down an embankment after leaving the road. According to police, Hart left the scene and ended up at his nearby residence and received medical attention. Kevin later received back surgery and rehabilitation to help him recover.
