The Situation is a free man. Jersey Shore’s Mike Sorrentino has been released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Ottisville, New York.

“We are elated to finally close this chapter of our life,” Mike said in a statement. “Thank you to our family, friends and fans for the continuous love and support during this time, it brought us so much peace and comfort. We look forward to continuing our life as husband and wife and working on baby situations! We truly believe that the comeback is ALWAYS greater than the setback and we can’t wait to show the world ours.”

According to E! News, Mike plead guilty to tax evasion and served 8 months. His remaining sentence has him serving two years of supervised release and 500 hours of community service. The reality star also had to pay a $10,000 fine and a $123,000 restitution fee.

Both Mike and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, were charged with tax evasion after the brothers failed to report millions of dollars during the 2010-2012 time period. Mike’s brother received a sentence of 24 months in prison.

Mike has been keeping fans updated on his progress through social media and of course, his famed reality show.

“Big Daddy Sitch may be on an extended vacation, but he still keeps in touch with the fam!,” he wrote in one post. The last post came 6 days ago when he shared a promo of Jersey Shore where his costars DJ Paulie and Vinny Guadagnino paid him a visit at the correctional institution.
