The 61st Annual Grammy Awards were filled with its share of magical moments on Sunday night (Feb. 10.) Yet, one of the brightest was the moment when Shawn Mendes and Miley Cyrus took the stage together for a performance of the Grammy-nominated song “In My Blood.”
The moment began with Mendes basking in one single spotlight while sitting at a piano out in the audience to sing the first lyrics of the hit song. Eventually, Mendes got up from the piano and walked on stage to join Cyrus, who was sporting a sleeveless and quite revealing coat jacket. And from there, the two young stars went and proved why they are on track to becoming legendary as they sang the song, which was up for Song of the Year.
Of course, the two were able to warm up for their Grammy performance earlier in the week, when they appeared together on Friday night (Feb. 8) during the MusiCares gala to perform the Dolly Parton classic “Islands in The Stream.”
“I actually sent him a DM and said, ‘I don’t know what you’re trying to do next,’ because I’ve actually been in his position in his career, too, before, where you’re someone who I think is trying to fit into pop music and you want to be played on pop music, but you don’t want to be conformist and you want to do your own thing,” Cyrus told Variety in a recent interview. “I love the way that he always kind of plays alternative pop because it’s something that I love to do.”
