Harvey Weinstein was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pains, just hours after being convicted on a series of sexual assault and third degree rape charges Monday (Feb. 24.)
According to Variety, Weinstein’s heart issues escalated as he was being transferred to jail on Rikers Island, but was then immediately taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.
Weinstein’s health problems have been many as of late, with Weinstein’s attorney Donna Rotunno telling the judge that he recently had unsuccessful back surgery, and has to get shots in order to prevent him from going blind. He has even been using a walker as of late.
On March 11, Weinstein is scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes. He faces anywhere from five to 25 years in prison.
“Rape is rape, whether it’s committed by a stranger in a dark alley or by an intimate partner,” District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. said Monday (Feb. 24,) according to Variety. “It’s rape whether it’s committed by an indigent person or a man of immense power, personage and privilege… Weinstein is a vicious serial sexual predator who used his power to threaten, rape, assault, trick, humiliate and silence his victims.”
“The fight is not over,” Weinstein’s defense attorney Donna Rotunno later added. “He is going to continue to fight.”
Harvey will next face charges in Los Angeles for allegedly raping one woman and sexually assaulting another in 2013 on consecutive days. A plea has yet to be entered for those charges.
