Michael Scott who?

Steve Carrell, who played Michael Scott in NBC’s The Office, has a new role in Netflix’s new comedy series Space Force.

The trailer for the upcoming TV show, co-created by Carrell and The Office creator Greg Daniels, was released Tuesday May 5 and we like what we see.

The new comedy stars Carrell, John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake, alongside guest stars Jane Lynch and Fred Willard.

According to Netflix, Steve Carrell stars as four-star general Mark R. Naird, a decorated pilot who dreams of running the Air Force but finds himself chosen to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force.

Space Force came around in a rather atypical way. Netflix had this premise that they thought might make a funny show — the idea made everybody laugh in a meeting, an idea of a show about the origins of a fictitious Space Force. I heard about the idea through my agent, and Netflix pitched the show to me, and then I pitched the show to Greg, and we all had the same reaction to it,” Carrell said in a statement. “There was no show, there was no idea aside from the title. Netflix asked, ‘Do you want to do a show called Space Force?’ And I pretty much immediately said, ‘Well yeah, sure. That sounds great.'”

In the trailer Genearl Naird takes command of the Space Force and from the looks of it, nothing seems to go as planned. So much so, that the General needs a quick five minutes alone to sing the Beach Boys hit “Kokomo.” What could go wrong?

“Fifty years ago, our country put a man on the moon. Well, guess what kids—We’re going back,” Steve’s character says in the clip. It should be quite a journey.

Of course the series is a result of the space force military branch, which conducts space warfare and space operations, created by President Donald Trump in Dec. 2019.

We have a feeling Steve’s Space Force will be a lot more fun.
