After releasing the first photo of Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers in the new Hollywood film, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” the trailer has finally arrived and it’s heartwarming.
The new clip follows the story of Fred Rogers, played by Tom Hanks, as he is profiled by journalist, Lloyd Vogel, based on real-life Esquire writer Tom Junod, and their friendship that follows.
“Hello neighbor,” Fred says to open the trailer. “We are trying to give the world positive ways of dealing with their feelings,” Mister Rogers says in the clip.
The trailer opens with Lloyd and Mr. Rogers meeting to begin the profile piece for the magazine.
“Lloyd, Please don’t ruin my childhood,” Andrea Vogel, played by Susan Kelechi Watson, says in the trailer after learning her husband is writing the piece on everyone’s most beloved neighbor.
Sony describes the film as “a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.”
“Sometimes we have to ask for help. And that’s OK,” Mister Rogers adds. “I think the best that that we can do is to let people know that each one of them is precious. ”
