Former NFL quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is dead at the age of 36.

According to NFL.com, the former Alabama State standout died after after being involved in a car crash Sunday night (April 12.) The football player played five seasons for the Minnesota Vikings and also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills before taking a job as a quarterback coach for Tennessee State University. He was working in this position at the time of the tragic accident.

“The entire Vikings family is saddened by the news of Tarvaris Jackson being taken from us too soon,” the Vikings said in a statement, according to NFL.com. “One of Tarvaris’ greatest attributes was his positive outlook and approach. He genuinely cared about others, was a good friend and will be missed by family, teammates and Vikings fans everywhere. We send out deepest condolences to his family.”

“Tarvaris Jackson was a beloved teammate, competitor, and Seahawks,” said Pete Carroll, the current head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, in a tweet on Monday (April 13.) “He will be deeply missed. So heartbroken by the news of his passing and sending our condolences to his family and friends. We love you forever.”
