Best known for his role as Tommy on 1970s hit sitcom Alice, Phillip McKeon has passed away on Tuesday in Texas. He was 55.
A family spokesman Jeff Ballard confirmed to People. that Phillip was battling a longtime illness.
“We are all beyond heartbroken and devastated over Phil’s passing,” the family said in a statement. “His wonderful sense of humor, kindness and loyalty will be remembered by all who crossed his path in life.”
Phillip, older brother to Facts of Life actress Nancy McKeon, played Tommy, Linda Lavin’s son on the sitcom from 1976-1985. The 55-year-old actor then began a career in news at KFWB News 98 before moving to Texas. He also made appearances in such TV shows as CHIPs, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat and Favorite Son before making the move to movies in Return to Horror High, Red Surf and Ghoulies 4.
Philip is survived by Nancy and his mother, Barbara. Our condolences to the McKeon family.
