Sara Gilbert Announces She’s Leaving “The Talk” — “It’s Time For Me to Leave the Show”

In a surprise announcement on The Talk, Sara Gilbert revealed to fans that she will be leaving the show at the end of it’s current season.

During the April 9 episode, Sara took the reigns and made the announcement as she was surrounded by co-hosts Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Carrie Ann Inaba and Eve.

“This is hard to do and something, something that I have been struggling with for a while and going back and forth, but I’ve decided it’s time for me to leave the show at the end of the season,” Sara said choking back tears.

The audience erupted with their disapproval but Sara went on. “I know, I know. I obviously love it here, and like I said this was extremely difficult. Last season I did The Conners as you know and was also producing and here and I loved it and felt totally empowered but also if I’m being honest about it I think my life was slightly out of balance. I wasn’t able to spend as much time with my three kids as I’d like or time for myself. As I’ve continued on, I’ve started to develop more things to produce and I’m having opportunities to act, I’m just feeling like I don’t know how I’m going to do it all. I was looking at the next six months and thinking, ‘there’s not time.'”

She continued, “Just basic life things. It’s difficult because this is a place that I love and a place that I’m extremely happy. I love the hosts, I love the crew, I love our staff. I am so grateful to our audience for letting me in your homes everyday. It’s been such an honor. I’m not going anywhere yet, I’ll be here the rest of the season. I will come back, I will guest co-host, you’re not going to get rid of me, so I’ll be around.”

Sara created the show and took the role as executive producer when the show aired in 2010 on CBS. The original panel of hosts, when the show premiered, featured hosts Sara, Leah Remini, Holly Robison Peete, Julie Chen and Sharon Osbourne and has been through several incarnations with the latest additions being Eve and Carrie Ann Inaba in the co-host chair.

No word on whether or not Sara’s seat will be filled by a new co-host.
