Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to backlash from comments she’s made in the press. An quite frankly, since it happens so often, we’re pretty sure she doesn’t care.

However, the “Lucy” actress has caused yet another stir when she stood in defense of Woody Allen, who has directed Scarlett in many movies including “Match Point,” “Scoop,” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” Woody has been accused, by daughter Dylan Farrow, for sexually assaulting her as a child. An accusation that the director has vehemently denied.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett was asked how she felt about Woody. “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime,” she replied to the magazine. “I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”

Well, those comments didn’t sit well with the online contingent. Many fans have fired back at the actress for supporting the director. Scarlett has also been a staunch supporter of the #MeToo movement, which fans also took umbrage with.

Charlotte Clymer, Human Rights Campaign communications writer, posted her thoughts. “At this point, I think the only identity Scarlett Johansson hasn’t tried to culturally appropriate is a person with integrity.”

“What a judge of character Scarlett Johansson must believe herself to be, so capable of knowing when she is being deceived or not. It’s the kind of arrogance you have to really hone over many years. What child molesters did she find less convincing in her interrogations?,” added Pod Save America co-host Jon Lovett

Fans turned on the Black Widow actress as well.

“Who is Scarlett Johansson to say if it happened or not? She wasn’t there,” added @SauveShari

“i wanna watch black widow to support florence pugh and david harbour but scarlett johansson is making it really hard >:(.” shared @maulsrobolegs.

If a person heavily involved in the Time’s Up movement stands for an alleged abuser, how will women like me feel safe to say Me Too? The truth is known only to the abuser and the abused and you PUBLICLY gave your support because you “believe” him #ScarlettJohansson,’ shared @pamfortheglam.

But the actress does have her supporters online as well.

“I respect women like #ScarlettJohansson. She is using her own mind to assess the situation. Common sense and logic are so unpopular in American culture these days. What happened?” said @ImUnderherfeet.

“On The View today Scarlett Johansson and Woody Allen topic since when are we not allowed to have our own opinion if she thinks he didn’t do it that’s her business stop trolling.”

The actress has been receiving Oscar buzz for her upcoming  supporting role in Taika Waititi’s black comedy Jojo Rabbit. Fans have also been eagerly awaiting her upcoming solo prequel role as Black Widow in the Marvel Comics movie.
