As news of the fire breaking out at the historic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France spread, celebrities reacted to the tragic sight.
According to CNN, the spire on top of the cathedral collapsed as the fire burned. The fire spread rapidly as firefighters began shooting water into the burning building.
“A terrible fire is underway at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris,” Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said. “The fire brigade are trying to control the fire. We are mobilized locally in close connection with church authorities. I ask everyone to respect the security perimeter.”
No word on the cause of the fire has been revealed at this time. Celebrities such as Laura Dern, Idris Elba and Jennifer Beals, took to Twitter to share their feelings about the tragedy at Notre Dame.
