Actress America Ferrera Is ‘Stunned and Heartbroken’ Over Sudden Death of “Ugly Betty” Creator, Silvio Horta

Actress America Ferrera has probably seen her share of shocking storylines through the years. But the real life storyline regarding the death of Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta has seemingly rocked her to her core.

“I’m stunned and heartbroken to hear the devastating news of Ugly Betty creator, Silvio Horta’s death,” Ferrera wrote on her Instagram account Tuesday (Jan. 9) alongside a picture of them during much happier times. “His talent and creativity brought me and so many others such joy & light. I’m thinking of his family and loved ones who must be in so much pain right now- and of the whole Ugly Betty family who feel this loss so deeply.”

 

Fans will recall that Ferrera starred on Ugly Betty during its four seasons on ABC. The groundbreaking show won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2007. During his career, Horta had also worked on Jake 2.0., starring actor Christopher Gorham.

According to Variety, Horta was found dead in Miami, Florida on Tuesday (Jan. 9) in a hotel room. According to reports, the writer and producer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sources also told Entertainment Tonight that Horta had battled addiction in recent years.
