Season 15 of America’s Got Talent started off with a bang or some would say… a buzzer. As the season kicked off host Terry Crews was inspired but Voices of Our City choir and showed his appreciation.
The choir is made up of people experiencing homelessness in San Diego. According to the founder of the group, there are people in the choir who can’t afford medicine and can’t afford rent. The choir is able to raise money and help their people get off the street.
“You guys represent so many people who are underrepresented or not represented,” AGT host Terry Crews told the choir prior to their performance. “The arts saved me in so many ways. Let me tell you, you are going to encourage and inspire so many people today.”
And that they did. The choir performed their own original song written by the choir in their workshop.
Following the performance the judges had nothing but praise for the group.

“That was beautiful. The words of the song were really special,” judge Sofia Vergara said. “They were so perfect for you guys. I think we need more people like you that are really taking matters into their own hands it was fantastic.”
Judge Howie Mandel added, “Homelessness is pervasive all over the world but it’s huge in this country and we need to solve this problem and we need to come together. Who you are and why you’re doing it and what you’re doing does blow me and the entire audience away.”
“There’s no question or doubt that there is strength in numbers. My favorite moment was the talking,” Simon said. “The tone of your voice is just sensational. What we have here is a collection of really talented people and we need that raw talent to begin with and that’s what we’ve got. We live in a world at the moment there is so much talking but you’ve actually made something happen.”
That’s when Terry Crews interrupted Simon and walked down to the judges desk to hit the Golden Buzzer.
“What they did today has moved me to this point right now,” he said, slamming the buzzer. And off they go. The Voices of Our City Choir is the first act of the new season to head straight to the live shows.
“I believe in you, I believe in you,” Terry shouted. “I love you guys. I’m honored to help you today. What you’re doing right now is beyond, totally beyond. You deserve it.”
