Gareth Pursehouse was released from jail after posting a $2-million-dollar bond following the death of his ex-girlfriend Dr. Amie Harwick.
But his freedom didn’t last long.
Hours later, Pursehouse was arrested again and charged with one count each of murder and first-degree residential burglary “with the special circumstance allegation of lying in wait,” according to People magazine. And this time, he is also on a no bail warrant and if convicted, he could face the death penalty.
The development is just the latest odd circumstance of a case which began Saturday when Harwick, who is the ex-fiancée of the host Drew Carey, was assaulted by an intruder and fell from the balcony of her Hollywood Hills home. That intruder is allegedly Pursehouse, who has had multiple run-ins with Harwick through the years. In fact, Harwick had already been granted two restraining orders against her ex, who she last dated more than a decade ago.
According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, Dr. Harwick passed away as a result of blunt force injuries to her head and torso.
“Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime,” Carey told People following his ex-fiancées death. “She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.”
