“Let second grade begin,” Ed McKenzie, played by Adam Scott, says in the new trailer for HBO’s hit drama Big Little Lies 2. Ed, Madeline’s husband, puts it all in a nutshell as he refers to the moms of Monterey.

The Monterey Five—Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Renata (Laura Dern), Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) and Jane (Shailene Woodley)—are back and they look to be dealing with a lot of guilt for killing Celeste’s husband, Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) in the second trailer for the hit show.

“I can just see the damage that it’s done and it’s eroding every single one of us,” Madeline (Reese) says in the clip.

The official synopsis for the new season gives a dark look into what’s to come. “The subversive, darkly comedic drama Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode … the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”

As the ladies lives begin to unravel and the detectives continue to apply pressure for a confession, a new character is introduced. Enter Meryl Streep as Perry’s mother, Mary Louise. Celeste’s mother can’t seem to stop asking questions and truly doesn’t believe her son’s death was an accident.

“You don’t believe my son just slipped,” Mary Louise can be heard saying in voiceover. “My son is dead and I want answers.” While she may get some answers, we’re pretty sure it will leave even more questions.

Season 2 of Big Little Lies will premiere on HBO on June 9.
