There were many aspects of Bindi Irwin’s wedding to Chandler Powell this past March that didn’t go according to plan.
Take for instance the fact that no guests were allowed to attend her wedding that was held at the Australia Zoo due to coronavirus concerns. And while she had been probably dreaming of her wedding since she was a little girl, she wasn’t able to make all of those dreams come true considering that her dad wasn’t there to walk her down the aisle.
Steve Irwin, best known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” passed away in 2006 when he was pierced in the chest by a stingray.
But now, all of these years later, during her wedding, Bindi made sure to recognize the importance of her father in her life. In a Facebook video she shared recently, Irwin spoke of how her late father lives on in her life.
“I think that Dad’s with us, too, in a way,” she said in a voice-over in the video, which included images from her wedding day alongside footage from the past of her and her father. “I think that his spirit lives on in everything that we do, so I feel like he’s going to be there walking beside me and (brother) Robert (Irwin) as we head down that aisle.”
Bindi also lit a candle during the ceremony in her father’s honor.
“And this candle is to represent Dad, who I wish could’ve been here,” she continued, while choking up. “I think it’s really special that he’s always with us and he walks beside us with everything that we do.”
