“The Conners” Cast Officially Kicked Off Filming New Season Following “Roseanne” Cancellation

The cast of “The Conners,” the new spinoff of the cancelled ABC show “Roseanne,” have gone back to work.

ABC released an official photo of the cast at the table read, where the cast runs through the script, on Instagram. The caption of the photo simply reads “#TheConners: Day 1”

And so it begins. Three months after ABC cancelled the popular reboot of “Roseanne” for a racist tweet, the new cast, sans Roseanne Barr, is carrying on. The cast, Sara Gilbert, Jayden Rey, Michael Fishman, Ames McNamara, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson and Emma Kenney are seated at the Conners kitchen table for the first read.

Roseanne fought for her co-workers to continue with their jobs by striking a deal with the network to continue the show, under a new name, if she would not benefit financially or be a part of the cast. Following the deal, the spinoff was announced.

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience,” the original cast said in a statement. “We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

As they say in show business, the show must go on. But will it be successful. That remains to be seen.
