Fran Drescher Reunites With ‘The Nanny’ Cast For Virtual Table Read During Pandemic

The nanny from Flushing, Queens is back.

Fran Drescher is returning to her role in The Nanny and we couldn’t be more excited.  As this time of quarantine and self-isolation continues, Fran is surprising us with a blast from the past.  In a post on Instagram, the 62-year-old actress announced that the cast of her sitcom will on Monday, April 6 for a pandemic performance.

“SURPRISE! MONDAY 4/6 #pandemicperformance #thenanny @nbcindebted.” she wrote alongside a photo of the original cast. She also shared the news with a photo from their Zoom meeting of the original cast.

“NANNY FANS ALERT! It’s happening!!!! MONDAY 4/6 the original cast of The Nanny together AGAIN in a virtual read of the pilot episode!!! ”

Fran, who co-created the series with her husband Peter Marc Jacobsen,  starred as nanny Fran Fine, alongside Charles Shaughnessy (Max Sheffield), Daniel Davis (Niles), Lauren Lane (C.C. Babcock), Nicholle Tom (Maggie Sheffield), Benjamin Salisbury (Brighton Sheffield) and Madeline Zima (Grace Sheffield).

The show, which ran for six seasons from 1993 to 1999, followed the life of Fran, a cosmetic salesperson from Flushing, Queens, who becomes the Nanny to the three children of British Broadway producer and widower Maxwell Sheffield.

The special pandemic performance, will see the original cast read the pilot episode to cheer up fans. It will air on the SONY Youtube channel on April 6.

So, in these challenging times, Petah and I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we pulled together the original cast of ‘The Nanny’ for a virtual read of the pilot?” said Drescher in a statement to Variety.  “It’s a once in a lifetime Pandemic Performance for our fans around the world who are currently stressing in isolation and could use a real upper! It sure has given each of us a lift and we hope it does for you as well.”
