The hiccup was only very minor as NBC’s The Voice created a way to continue season 18 after the pre-recorded rounds were complete and the live rounds were set to begin. Now those “Lives” have started, but before the contestants could compete for the Top 9 spots, they were reunited with this season’s “Mega Mentor,” James Taylor to perform one of the star’s biggest hits, “Shower the People.”
Well, virtually reunited anyway.
Thanks to teleconferencing, the finalists so far were able to be edited in, performing from their respective homes and interacting with the family that they are currently quarantined with. The results are one of the most lovely and uplifting pieces of music to come from this period of isolation.
In addition to James and the season 18 contestants, the video was interspersed with footage of first responders and front line workers who are keeping the nation rolling with their incredibly selfless efforts.
Much like other reality competition shows who have both a taped portion and live shows where America takes part in the decision making process, finalists for this season of The Voice, along with coaches Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton will continue to log in from their homes until a winner is named. This week, the Top 17 is narrowed down to the Top 9. Next week, the Top 9 will drop down to the Top 4 and then the four finalists will compete to become the new winner of The Voice.
