Kathy Griffin is mourning the loss of her beloved mother Maggie Griffin.

The sad news was announced on Griffin’s social channels on Tuesday (March 17,) and comes just days before Maggie Griffin was to turn 100 years old.

“My mom, the one and only Maggie Griffin, passed away today,” Kathy wrote alongside a picture of her and her mom poolside during happier days. “I am gutted. She was my best friend. She was my family. You knew her. She appreciated you guys so much. I’m shaking. I won’t ever be prepared. Her point of view. So unique. We just GOT each other.”

Indeed, this mother daughter team had an incredibly close relationship both personally and professionally. Maggie Griffin appeared alongside her daughter in shows such as Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (2005-10) and Kathy (2012-13).

“I’m so grateful you guys got to be part of her life,” Kathy added in the Instagram post. “You loved her. I know it. She knew it. She’s irreplaceable. Oh, and OF COURSE she went on St. Patrick’s Day.”

In January of 2019, Griffin revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with dementia and in recent months, her health had been declining rapidly. And for Griffin, her mom’s death is yet another in a string of deaths, including her brother dying of cancer in 2014 and her sister Joyce also dying from cancer in 2017.

“I’m telling you right now, I am not doing well with this,” she concluded. “I’m rambling now. Sorry. It truly feels like the end of an era.”

We send our condolences to Kathy and her family.
