Kristian Alfonso Leaving ‘Days of Our Lives’ After 37 Years

It’s been 37 years since Kristian Alfonso came into our living rooms as Hope Williams (later Brady) on the award-winning daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives. Today (July 6), the 56-year-old actress  announced that she will be leaving the beloved soap.

In a heartfelt note to fans, Kristian announced her departure.

“Days of our Lives has been a vital part of both my personal and professional journey,” Kristian wrote. “I am forever grateful to NBC and the late Betty Corday, who took a chance on me many years ago and changed my life.”

She continued, “I have built some lifelong friendships with my extraordinarily talented castmates. Days has one of the hardest working crews in all of television, many of whom have become part of my extended family. I feel blessed and honored to have been invited into people’s homes for over three decades.”

That when she revealed that she will not be returning to the show.

“However, it is time for me to write my next chapter,” she added. “I will not be returning to Days when it resumes production in September. I’ve already filmed my last episode several months ago. Finally – to the incredibly loyal fans of Days – many of you have been with me on this journey from the beginning. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity, love and support. I could not have done it without YOU!!! Lots of Love, Kristian XO.”

This isn’t the first time Kristian has left the daytime soap. In 1987, she left for two years to play the role of Pilar Ortega on the nighttime soap Falcon Crest. She returned to Days in 1990 for a brief run, only to leave again. Her third return saw her portray Princess Gina Von Amberg, whom Hope was brainwashed into believing she was. Ahhh, gotta love soap opera plot lines.

Kristian became 1/2 of the daytime super couple Bo & Hope, when she married Bo Brady, played by actor Peter Reckell, who also left the show 1987, only to return for one year in 1990. He again returned in 1995, departing the role in 2012. Following his departure, the couple ended up getting divorced in 2014 (part of their storyline).

Peter returned one more time in 2015, leading up to the show’s 50th anniversary. He returne dto save his ex-wife Hope from her husband at the time, who was trying to kill her. Soon after, Bo was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and died in Hope’s arms, thus ending the run of one of soap’s most enduring couples.

For Days of Our Lives fans, Kristian Alfonso/Hope Brady has been an iconic player in daytime for over 30 years. The show will not be the same without her.

Days is scheduled to resume shooting in September, if coronavirus allows for it.

Best of luck to Kristian as she moves on to her next chapter.
