When Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” was cancelled from ABC, fans were understandably disappointed. The show was then picked up on FOX and given a new life. However, more disappointing news came when we learned that Molly Ephraim (Mandy) and Flynn Morrison (Boyd) would not be returning in their original roles.

“When the show was cancelled, everybody figured ‘okay, we gotta move on’,” executive producer Matt Berry told reporters on Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour. “[Molly] got involved in some different things, so when [“Last Man Standing”] came back, she was not able to do it. It’s unfortunate. We love her deeply, and she’s a big part of who we were, but [it’s] exciting for us to look around and see who we can get to play that character.”

News came Monday that the actress picked to portray Mandy in season 7 would be Molly McCook (The Ranch, Glory Daze), while Boyd— Mike Baxter’s grandson—would be portrayed by Jet Jurgensmeyer (American Sniper).

“We’re going to have a new actor [play Boyd] because we want to age up the character,” “Last Man Standing” executive producer Kevin Abbott told ET. “We’re bringing him back at the age of 12, so we can do some fun storylines about a young man on the cusp of becoming a man.”

Molly took to Instagram to share her excitement saying, “I’m speechless and overwhelmed. So excited for this opportunity!”

Jet also shared the news via social media. “I am SOOO excited to be part of @lastmanstandingfox!!! Can’t wait to get to work 😄.”

“Last Man Standing” will begin it’s new season on September 28 at 8pm, airing Friday evenings on FOX.
