Luckily, his injuries are currently said to be non-life-threatening.

“Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center,” a statement issued on Monday (Feb. 17) read. “He is in serious condition, but doctors have indicated his injuries are not life threatening. “On behalf of Roush Fenway Racing and Ryan Newman’s family, we’d like to thank the NASCAR community for the incredible outpouring of support and compassion for Ryan,” a statement read on Tuesday (Feb. 18.) “Your thoughts and prayers have comforted us all. Ryan remains at Halifax Medical Center and we will provide further updates on his condition as they become available.”

The terrifying accident took place Monday (Feb. 17,) as Newman was fighting for the lead on the last lap of the rescheduled Daytona 500. As he fought for position, he was turned sideways, flipped and was hit on the driver’s side before coming to a stop in flames right past the start/finish line.

Denny Hamlin came home the winner of the race, becoming the fourth driver to win back to back Daytona 500 titles and only the sixth driver to ever win three Daytona 500 races.

“First a foremost I want to give well wishes and prayers to Ryan Newman,” Hamlin tweeted out shortly after the race on Monday (Feb. 17.) “I had absolutely NO IDEA of the severity of the crash until I got to victory lane. There’s very little communication after the finish and I had already unhooked my radio. It’s not anyone’s fault.”

Out thoughts and prayers are with Ryan for a complete recovery.
