As news began to trickle out Friday (July 17) regarding the sudden death of Olympic figure skater Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya, many wondered if there was more to the already devastating story.

And now we can confirm…there was.

According to various reports, the 20-year-old figure skating champion fell out of the window of her 6th-floor apartment in Moscow in an apparent suicide. Alexandrovskaya had retired from the sport earlier this year due to injuries.

But in fact, she was hiding something far deeper.

According to those closest to her, she had recently been diagnosed with epilepsy and also suffered from depression.

No matter the reasons why, Alexandrovskaya’s death is leaving many to mourn her loss, including her former skating partner Harley Windsor.

“Words can not describe how I feel right now, I am devastated and sick to my core about the sad and sudden passing of Katia,” said Windsor, who competed together at the 2018 Pyeong Chang Olympics. “The amount we had achieved during our partnership is something I can never forget and will always hold close to my heart. This news is something you can never prepare for. Rest in Peace Katia.”
