If there was any doubt that Queen Latifah was made to portray the evil Ursula in The Little Mermaid, that doubt was laid to rest Tuesday night (Nov. 5) as Latifah nailed the role in The Little Mermaid Live.
While the show itself received mixed reviews from Twitter critics, there was not doubt that Queen Latifah was the highlight of the performances. For those unfamiliar with what went down Tuesday night, ABC put together a movie and live action performance of the 1989 mega-hit animated Disney feature film, The Little Mermaid.
What we mean by half movie and half live performance is that the audience was shown the actual animated movie from 1989 and when the performance scenes came on, the live cast would take over and it would switch to the stage.
“They should have just called this The Little Mermaid Movie Party Watch with Live Performances,” on Twitter user wrote after viewing the production.
The live performances featured Auli’i Cravalho as Ariel, Graham Phillips as Prince Eric, John Stamos as Chef Louis and Shaggy as Sebastian the crab, who for some reason didn’t look like a crab. But we digress. However, it was Queen Latifah as the evil octopus, Ursula, who stunned audiences with her performance of “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”
Decked out with octopus tentacles, which she dramatically ditched during her performance, the rapper/singer commanded the stage with her stellar vocals and bravado needed to fill the iconic role.

We couldn’t agree more.
