Beloved Racing Commentator Bob Varsha Diagnosed With Aggressive Form of Prostate Cancer

Motor racing broadcaster Bob Varsha has spent a career calling countless races to the finish line. But now, he finds himself in a race of his own.

And this one is brutal.

According to Racer magazine, Varsha has been diagnosed with ‘a rare and aggressive form of prostate cancer that will require intensive chemotherapy over the coming months.’ The article goes on to say that it is quite unlikely Varsha will return to the airwaves until June at the very earliest.

“Any race fan who has been lucky enough to watch a race called by Bob Varsha or driver who’s he covered over the years, read below and help if you can,” legendary IndyCar driver Dario Franchitti wrote in a Twitter post, directing fans to a GoFund Me page set up for the legendary broadcaster.

Fans know Varsha best via his work on various networks such as ESPN, NBC, SPEED, and Fox Sports. And it was these same fans who headed to Twitter to express their concern over Varsha’s diagnosis.

“Many of the motorsport memories from my childhood have your voice woven through them,” one fan wrote on Twitter about the native New Yorker. “Stay strong.”

Our well wishes go out to this beloved auto racing legend.
