Dancing isn’t as easy as it looks. Just ask football legend Ray Lewis.

On Monday (Sept. 30,) it was announced that Lewis will be leaving Dancing with the Stars due to an injury. And no, the NFL legend wasn’t too happy about it.

“Not the ending I had hoped or worked for but that mirror ball wasn’t in the plans for me,” he wrote on his Instagram page Monday night (Sept. 30) next to a pic of him dancing alongside his pro partner Cheryl Burke. “I can’t say thank you enough for the support and love. Injuries have never stopped me before and certainly not now. I’ll be back doing the squirrel dance soon enough.”

Ray was sidelined by an old football injury in his foot that had comeback. The doctor in the video package told Ray that his injury would require surgery and that if he kept dancing on his foot, the injury could rupture. Ray had to exit the show.

Burke also weighed in with comments of her own after this week’s show had aired.

“Dancing with Ray has meant so much to me,” she wrote on her own Instagram page Monday night (Sept. 30.) “His positivity and dedication are admirable, and his smile is contagious. The hard work he put into every practice and performance is something only a true athlete could do. Being an athlete means pushing yourself past your limits, but also knowing when to take care of your body. Unfortunately, due to injuries he sustained to his foot, our journey to the mirror ball ends tonight.”

Lewis is now the second celebrity that has been forced to leave the competition early due to an injury this season. Just a few short weeks ago, contestant Christie Brinkley had to withdraw after breaking her arm during rehearsals. Her daughter Sailor is currently taking her mom’s place in the competition.
