It was the Tweet heard round the world. Just as Roseanne was making one of TV’s best comebacks with her sitcom “Roseanne” and just as it was renewed for a second season, it was cancelled.
The actress tweeted out racist comments about Valerie Jarrett, President Obama’s former advisor, which ABC could not and would not tolerate. The tweet read, “if muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
The ABC brass were not happy and immediately made the announcement to cancel her very popular show. That’s not all, her peers and fellow celebrities decided to speak out on the matter and they weren’t coming to Roseanne’s defense. In fact, most were glad to see her go.
Co-star Sara Gilbert (Darlene), distanced herself from the show’s star saying “Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.”

This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.

I just heard #rosanne is cancelled. My reaction— tears. I am so relieved and grateful. The hate that has been spewing from those in Trump’s orbit has really taken a toll on all of our souls and psyches. I didn’t believe it would happen. I had lost faith. Thank you @abc .

So proud of @ABCNetwork for having the ethical compunction to cancel #Rosanne despite the show’s huge numbers. We too make a show about a middle class family , come and watch us instead #speechless @Speechless_ABC ✨

Thank you, @ABCNetwork for doing the right thing and for showing people that bigotry and racism has consequences. Now, if you could only cancel our President for the same reason. #RoseanneBarred

#ChanningDungey for the win! Congrats to @ABCNetwork for deciding to #gohigh and call out bigotry. #walkthewalk https://t.co/frLkWZsisP

@therealroseanne, you break my heart — You are a sorry excuse for a human being. How odd that you, as a comedienne, have forgotten then meaning of a "joke" and a personal comment. Your meanness is staggering and will earn you a ticket to a sad, lonely and sorry life.

I’m glad that @ABCNetwork took a stand. We as a country can and will be better. More welcoming, more inclusive. We reach so many people in the entertainment industry. We can be a voice for good.
We can, and will, become once again that beacon on a hill. ✨

Ton of respect for Bob Iger. Tough decision with financial consequences for his company but right for America….umm..now don't bug Bob but maybe someone else find out if I'm still banned from all of @ABCNetwork for calling Roseanne Barr out first on her racist conspiracy tweets?

Impressed with ABC. And now it appears they have an open time slot. 💁🏻♂️

Shame on you @therealroseanne and @ABCNetwork @RoseanneOnABC Not a single apology can get me to respect your despicable racist character. #EndRacism in #mainstream media NOW!!!

I am repulsed that Valerie Jarret had that racist and bigoted "joke" made at her expense and I am sickened that any Black or Muslim person has to keep hearing this sickness in 2018.

I just finally heard the Roseanne Barr news – that she made a hateful, racist comment on Twitter and that her show was cancelled because of it… This is an important reminder to us all how powerful words can be, and how lives can change because of one reckless moment. #BeKind pic.twitter.com/IykU6LTxbu
