Tim Allen is standing up for his friend, Roseanne Barr, following the cancellation of her popular ABC reboot, “Roseanne.” The show was cancelled due to an offensive tweet Roseanne posted about Obama’s former aide Valerie Jarrett.
The reboot of Roseanne’s show was one of the most watched shows on ABC but still the network decided to cancel the show saying, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
That lead to a backlash from some cast members, the network and some fans. But Tim Allen, who is also getting a second chance with his show “Last Man Standing,” which was cancelled by ABC despite high ratings and picked up by Fox.
At the Television Critics Association’s panel to promote his show, Tim spoke up for his friend saying “I go way back with Rosie and that’s not the Roseanne I know.”
According to E!, Tim blames the current climate of 2018 for the backlash at Roseanne. “It’s a very icy time,” he said. “We’ve gone backwards. There’s things you can’t say, there’s things you shouldn’t say. Who makes up these rules?”
Tim isn’t the only person to defend Roseann, President Donald Trump tweeted about the unfairness that ABC showed by cancelling her show. While the decision was made for the show to continue with a spinoff called “The Conners,” it will do so without Roseanne.
Tim had more to say about the friend he’s known for years. “She is inclusive and tolerant…I know Barr and she’s just not that person.”
