[Watch] Colin Kaepernick Reveals Powerful Two Minute Nike Commercial

Shortly after Nike announced Colin Kaepernick would be featured in their new “Just Do It” campaign, causing a firestorm on social media, we are getting our first look at the 2 minute commercial.

While the hiring of Colin Kaepernick has divided people, the ad also features Serena Williams, Lebron James, Shaquem Griffin (Seattle Seahawks) and many other athletes.

Colin shared the commercial on Twitter and it will air during Thursday Night Football as the Chicago Bears take on the Altanta Falcons.

Apropros, since all the controversy began when Colin Kaepernick, former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, sat down during the playing national anthem. It later grew into Colin and NFL players taking a knee during the anthem, to show their opposition to the oppression of people of color.

As images of athletes giving it their all appear on screen, Colin narrates the clip. He begins, “If people say your dreams are crazy, if they laugh at what you think you can do, good. Stay that way. Because what non-believers fail to understand is that calling a dream crazy is not an insult. It’s a compliment,”

Colin doesn’t actually appear on screen until 1:17 into the commercial. We see the back of Colin, recognized by his afro, on a city street, dressed in a brown trench coat and black turtle neck. As the line, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing something,” is read, Colin slowly turns toward the camera.

As his narration continues, telling people not to settle for being ordinary, Colin returns on screen at the end of the video saying, “So don’t ask if your dreams are crazy, ask if they’re crazy enough.”

While the message of the ad is powerful and inspiring and one that should be heard, one has to wonder if that message gets lost in all the controversy surrounding Colin’s presence. If so, that’s too bad.
