Julianne Hough And Brooks Laich Were Stalked By An Elephant While Reenacting A Scene From “Out Of Africa”

Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich took an extended honeymoon after their picturesque wedding, hopping between gorgeous beaches and an African safari in Kenya. Hough is a movie lover and was thrilled to find out she and her hubby were staying at the same resort where Meryl Streep and Robert Redford filmed “Out of Africa.” Of course, she could not wait to reenact the iconic picnic scene from the film, but they did not get far before they hear a low, rumbling purr nearby sound nearby.

I’ll let Hough take it from here as she recounted the story on her website:

“Within seconds we were in survival mode. We knew not to run or make any sudden movements, and Brooks grabbed the only objects we could use as weapons if we needed to protect ourselves. Unfortunately, two of those things were butter knives. For a second we thought about breaking the champagne bottle to use, but decided we’d feel awful about shattering glass all over nature. We heard the growl again, and this time it was even more terrifying. I’d never seen Brooks this scared.

We glanced out over the cliff and later admitted we both thought about jumping and hanging on to a tree until someone rescued us from the giant beast of a cat who was clearly stalking us. Instead, we decided to slowly rise up and briskly walk ourselves back to safety. Our hearts racing, we began making our way down the hill back to the resort.”

Hough and Laich thought they were being pursued by a big cat, but all the rangers began to yell “Elephant!” as they approached the resort. The couple tried to correct the rangers, but upon further investigation found that the purring beast was a curious elephant who, we believe, just wanted to watch the scene reenactment.
