Lori McKenna Could Win CMA Song (and Single) of the Year, But Her Kids Just Want to Meet Thomas Rhett

Before it’s all said and done, Lori McKenna is going to go down in country music history as one of its most profound songwriters. And the crown jewel of her lyrical profoundness will (most likely) always be “Humble and Kind,” a song she wrote alone in her kitchen after dropping her kids off at school. (McKenna lives in Massachusetts and is the mother of five children.)

The song started as something simple, just three chords and some rhymes. She just wanted to get some basic truths and life lessons out there for her kids. Tim McGraw got a hold of it, took it to No. 1 and now, it’s up for the biggest honor a single song can receive– CMA Song of the Year (and Single of the Year).

McKenna told us she’s bringing her kids to the 50th Annual CMA Awards and though they’re appreciative all of mom does and writes for them– they just want to meet Thomas Rhett.

McKenna was at the BMI Country Awards to celebrate her No. 1 hit with Little Big Town, “Girl Crush” as one of Top 50 Songs of the Year.
