Randy Owen Describes What It Meant To See Five Former Presidents Come Together To Support Hurricane Relief

Randy Owen has experienced more success than most artists can dream of. As the lead singer of Alabama and a successful solo country artist, Owen has played every major musical venue known to man, recorded dozens of #1 hits, and sold over 75 million records during his career. But one of the more awe inspiring and unique musical experiences of his career came when he performed for five presidents during a hurricane relief event earlier this year.

Alabama headlined the “One America Appeal” in College Station in October to raise support for victims of hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. On hand were the five living former presidents: Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George H. Bush, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.

“I’ve [performed] for one or two but never for five former presidents. That was really neat,” Owen told us while on the red carpet of the 51st CMA Awards. “To see the come together like I’d like to see the world come together – a lot more than what’s going on– I just thought it was incredible.”

The event went on to raise over $31 million. President Trump was unable to attend but pre-taped a message lending his support.

“To Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, Melania and I want to express our deep gratitude for your tremendous assistance,” Trump said in the message. “This wonderful effort reminds us that we truly are one nation under God, all unified by our values and our devotion to one another.”
