Not too long ago in an interview with Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America,” Carrie Underwood said for a long time when covering her idol, Dolly Parton, she’d always try to do what Dolly did. Quickly, she learned no one could do what Dolly can do, so she just put her own spin on Dolly’s songs.
Emily Ann Roberts chose Dolly’s classic working man anthem, “9 to 5” for her Top 9 performance on “The Voice,” and she didn’t do it like Dolly, but she did it and she did it well. Her performance was one of the only faster, upbeat performances of the evening and it should carry her a long way.
After her performance, coach Blake Shelton noted what most of us have been thinking for a while, “she’s going to make a lot of money for someone someday.”
