Keith Urban’s “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” is his fastest-selling single in almost 10 years. Which is no small feat considering Urban’s long list of No. 1 singles and multiplatinum albums.

After debuting the song at the 2015 CMT Music Awards, the single is sitting at No. 13 on Billboard‘s Country Chart. Written by hit-makers, Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Josh Osborne, the song took Urban a little longer than normal to perfect. The songwriters originally arranged it with acoustic guitar patterns, but once Urban got in the studio he knew he needed to break out his bass guitar.

Urban took fans into the studio to see just how much work he put into the single.
