Kelsea Ballerini had a really big year this year. She went from barely having a record deal, to having a debut No. 1 single to being honored as Billboard‘s 2015 Rising Star at the magazine’s Women in Music Event.

The event was held in New York City and Kelsea was joined by some of the biggest names in music as an honoree. Loretta Lynn received the Legend award and Lady Gaga was crowned the Woman of the Year. After being honored by friend and mentor Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum, Kelsea took to the stage to thank the other women in the room for blazing a trail for her and to perform that breakout No. 1 hit, “Love Me Like You Mean It.” Backed by just a small crew, Kelsea wowed the crowd with her vocals and songwriting chops.

She also told the crowd to clap.

Like her favorite mentor, Taylor Swift, Kelsea is also on her way to starting her own #GirlSquad.
